  1. Not sure if you guys are aware but Cineworld does Unlimited passes and this hasn’t hurt their business because they increase the normal cinema ticket price and also counts on the fact that not everyone will go as regularly as they believe they will if they have an unlimited card.

  2. This whole Movie Pass topic that you guys have been discussing for so long now completely bores me. It's not your fault and I understand this thing is relevant in the US but I live in the UK and cinema plans have been a thing here for years. It's obviously sustainable here because well it exists so you can stop speculating – it can work long term!

I see like 4-5 films a month and I pay a set monthly fee that's lower than the price of two tickets.

  3. "Character that is so associate with Britain" Sean Connery … I mean I get it.. he's part of the "UK" but nah fam. Besides, this was before the peak internet and 24/7 News. Maybe 10 people would care if an Australian was bond.

  4. I think tickets should be cheaper and more people will go to watch movies, isn't that simple economics? If tickets and concession stands were reasonably priced then there is no need for any deal.

  5. I want to tell you guys and gals that I LOVE what you have been doing on SJU/SJNews lately. The less structured, free formed style and more friendly banter between whoever happens to be on the pannel each day seems better overall and more fun. Keep up the great work.

  6. Personally it's a tough to pick but Dan has always brought the best fights in my opinion. Though if I remember correctly Spencer has been fighting well and fairly. And deserved the belt when he won.

  7. It still amazes me that you guys in the US pay so much for a movie ticket, even before the Mexican Peso was so devaluated, we paid less than half of what you pay, and now it's even lower, a regular movie ticket here costs the equivalent of 3 USD, with what you pay for 1 ticket we could pay 2 tickets, popcorn and sodas.

  8. Everyone, please reach out and help all of those in need with the following links SJU posted:

The United Way of Ventura County, American Red Cross of Ventura County and the Ventura County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Serviceshave teamed up to create the Thomas Fire Fund. All proceeds will go directly to support the hundreds of residents displaced by the fires.

Donations can be made via text message, on United Way of Ventura County's website or over the phone at 805-485-6288. Checks with "Thomas Fire Fund" in the memo line can be mailed to 702 County Square Drive, Suite 100 Ventura, CA 93003.

BUT SJU NEVER MENTIONED THE WINE COUNTRY FIRES IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA IN MID-OCTOBER WHERE 40+ PEOPLE DIED, WHOLE NEIGHBORHOODS WERE DESTROYED, LIVES WERE FOREVER CHANGED, AND THE ENTIRE AREA IS STILL FEELING THE EFFECT, BUT I GUESS ONLY LA FIRES SHOULD BE DISCUSSED AND ONLY THOSE PEOPLE SHOULD BE REQUESTED TO BE HELPED.

I will provide a few links for the Wine Country Fires since nobody at SJU will.

  9. You were confused by Amadeus?
Here the movie played in about 3 theatres, but one got the wrong can and played an ACTUAL DOCUMENTARY about Mozart.
It wasn't until the movie came out in Blockbuster years later, that I realised my friends, who had seen it in different theatres, weren't all just insane.

  10. Thanks for walking back the whole Australian Bond thing. You've had a Bond from different countries: Ireland, Scotland, England, Australia. Even America for the old "Casino Royals" TV movie from the '60s.

  11. I go to the cinema maybe once every 2 months. I must say though that I have been more frequently this year as SJN has filled me in on what films are coming out and highlighting films that I wouldn't normally go and see.

I am very lucky to have a small volunteer ran cinema within walking distance to my house that offers tickets for less than £5 ($7?). This includes your massive blockbusters and smaller more independent films.

  12. Movie Pass is most likely not taking the loss. I bet it's like credit cards. If you pay $5 cash for a ticket, the theater get $5, but if you pay with a credit card they only get a percentage of that. They take the loss because people won't like not having that payment option.
Similarly, Movie Pass most likely approached small venues and got their affiliation, because those would not lose (perhaps they'd even gain) money. Then they approach bigger theaters and say "hey, we have this service and we're already working with X hundred places… do you want to be a part of it?". Because once people catch on to it, they won't go to a place that doesn't accept that service.
Or did I get something wrong about how it works?
